Tianjin is a large city in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Located in the north, this city is one of the four, direct-controlled municipalities of the PRC. The other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. Tianjin is bordered by the Hebei Province, Beijing, and the Bohai Gulf portion of the Yellow Sea. Tianjin is the largest coastal city in northern China. There are two main districts for Tianjin. The main urban area is located next to the Hai River. This includes the old city. Binhai is a newly developed area situated on the coast of the Bohai Sea. Tianjin has been a major seaport and a gateway to the Chinese capital of Beijing for foreign countries since the mid 19th century.

The economy of Tianjin is dependant on a number of factors, including its position as a port city, managing international shipping and logistics. Other facets of the economy include modern manufacturing, research and development, electronic information technology, automotive, bio-tech, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, and petrochemicals industries. The new coastal area of Binhai is home to the Tianjin Port and a number of recognisable international companies such as Motorola, Toyota and Samsung. Tianjin provides office space in both of its economic districts.

There are many top attractions in Tianjin. There is the Huangyaguan Great Wall, Dule Temple, the Haihe River, Water Park, and Panshan Mountain, to name just a few. Food Street offers many Chinese dishes and you can sample your way down the street. One international dining choice is Aulare, which offers Latin, Mediterranean, Spanish and Tapas. It is open from breakfast to late night.

The closest major airport to Tianjin, China is Tianjin Binhai International Airport. This airport is 21 km (13 miles) from the city centre. Tianjin harbour is a port of call for international cruises visiting the area. The area has a great public transportation system with trains and buses.
