On the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, Barcelona looks toward the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by the Collserola mountain range, and the Llobregat and Besòs Rivers. The city is 120 km (75 miles) south of the Pyrenees, and the Catalan border with France. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia. It is the second largest city in Spain, falling behind only Madrid. Restaurants in Barcelona include Cafè Zurich - offering outdoor seating in the Plaça de Catalunya, Escribà – incredible pastries and chocolate, and Speakeasy – a little hideaway situated behind the Dry Martini. Here you might choose mozzarella from southern Italy, served with white asparagus hearts and strips of cured ham.

Transport Information

The Barcelona-El Prat Airport is situated 17 km (11 miles) from the centre of Barcelona. It is the second-largest airport in Spain, and the largest on the Mediterranean coast. This airport is the main headquarters for Vueling Airlines and is a hub for Iberia and Air Europa. The airport is connected to the Barcekiba by highway, commuter train (Barcelona Airport railway station), and scheduled bus service. Public transportation in Barcelona includes metro, bus, two separate modern tram networks, a separate historic tram line, and several funiculars and aerial cable cars. Getting around the city is pretty easy using this network.
