Brick Lane is a street in the Borough of Tower Hamlets in east London that runs from Bethnal Green Road south towards Whitechapel and Aldgate. The road is famous for its association with Anglo-Indian and Bangladeshi communities and particularly with a wide variety of Asian cuisines. Brick Lane is as bustling and vibrant an area as there is to be found in London, and there is much more to it than just curry houses and Indian food. There is a thriving community of small and medium-sized businesses operating from offices along Brick Lane, and the area as a whole has benefitted considerably from the regeneration of much of east London in recent decade.

Setting up your business here

East London and areas like Brick Lane have emerged in recent years as key locations for businesses operating within creative industries across London and beyond. There are now numerous media companies, advertisers and marketing businesses operating on or close to Brick Lane. There are also a number of architect firms based in the area such as Hayhurst & Co, Sir Solutions and DLG Architects. Other business based in the vicinity include the advertising agency Unruly Media, 20:10 Design and a publisher called the Elephant Book Company. The area is exceptionally well located for access to the City of London, which is comfortably within reach on foot or by taxi or Tube. The centre of the UK’s digital technology start-up sector is also very close by and only a little way north-west of Brick Lane around Old Street.

Things to do in Brick Lane

Undoubtedly, one of the best things to do in Brick Lane is to try one of the area’s famous Indian or Bangladeshi restaurants. There are plenty to choose from all along the lane, with well-established favourites like Cinnamon, Sheba and Monsoon among the best. Brick Lane also spoils its visitors for choice in terms of bars, pubs and clubs. Among the best and most popular are Exit Bar, Casa Blue and Vibe Bar. Elsewhere, you’ll find quirky but brilliant destinations like the ten-pin bowling venue All Star Lanes and the Old Truman Brewery, which has been inventively reimagined as an art, dining and boutiques complex. Other attractions along Brick Lane include night clubs such as 93 Feet East and the famous Brick Lane Market, which takes place every Sunday.
