Burnaby is a city in British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in the westernmost Canadian province. The city borders Vancouver, Port Moody, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Burrard Inlet, and the Fraser River. Major waterways in the area include the Brunette River and a few creeks and lakes. The city is characterized by the large ethnic and immigrant communities.

Barnaby is home to major technology and heavy industry companies, such as Electronic Arts, Chevron Corporation, and Petro-Canada. Some major corporations, such as Nokia, Future Shop, Canada Wide Media, Translink and Online Trading Academy also have office space and facilities in the city. Barnaby features big commercial centers and business parks, developed technological research, film production studios, and TV stations. The Metropolis at Metrotown - the second largest commercial mall in Canada is also located in the city.

There are a considerable number of parks in Barnaby. Most popular are Burnaby Lake Park, Burnaby Mountain Park, Central Park, Capitol Hill Reservoir Park, and Deer Lake Park. They offer visitors a number of possibilities for hiking, picnics, enjoying amazing views of the nature, and playgrounds for children. Other area attractions include the Burnaby Village Museum & Carousel and the Simon Fraser Gallery. Various sport events take place at the city’s Swangard Stadium, home of the local professional soccer team. Burnaby offers a diversity of domestic and ethnic foods. Examples include: Horizons Restaurant – located in the Burnaby Mountain Park, it offers steaks and seafood, Anton’s Pasta – famous for the huge dishes of pasta, Bombay Bel and Tom Yum Thai – Indian and Thai foods, The Pear Tree Restaurant – one of the city’s finest continental restaurants, and Cockney Kings Fish & Chips – voted best in the city for the last few years.

Transport Information

Burnaby is located about 15 km (9 miles) from Vancouver International Airport. The city can be reached by car and the regional transit system, called Translink. The Expo and Millennium Skytrain lines run across the city, making it possible to reach downtown Vancouver in approximately twenty minutes. There is also bus service available.
