Amazon hunts mammoth Manhattan office space
Amazon.com Inc, the online conglomerate, is pursuing what is said to be one of the largest expansion initiatives for many years in the city of Manhattan, according to a speculative report released by The Wall Street Journey.
According to the report, the online retailer is looking for 300,000 to 500,000 sq ft of office space in the city, with multiple real estate agencies aware of the company’s hunt for what would be a 100,000sq ft expansion on its current offices in Manhattan’s 1350 Sixth Avenue.
So far, the company has completed preliminary discussions with the owners of One World Trade Centre and Brookfield Place - the recently renamed World Financial Trade Centre - in downtown Manhattan.
The expansion, said to be at early stages, would be one of the largest seen in the city for many years, with a 500,000sq ft space typically allowing for 2,000 to 3,000 workers.
A spokesperson for Amazon declined to comment on the move.
