Business Centre Excellence Award: Winner's Story September 2011
Last month, Search Office Space launched a new award scheme to celebrate business centre excellence across the country. After careful deliberation, a winner was chosen for September 2011 – so congratulations to The CEC Brighton Business Centre.
Clockwise, Kelly Faires (Service Coordinator), Nerys Lucas (BDM), Andrew Collins (SOS Marketing Director), and Becci Murphy (Receptionist) - Accepting the Business Centre Excellence Award, September 2011.
Romain Lenne, one of our sales consultants, nominated the Brighton Centre due to a number of successful deals, quality customer services, and friendly client relationship that has been bridged between SOS and the CEC’s Business Development Manager, Nerys Lucas.
Bob Toor, SOS’s Sales Director explained why the CEC Brighton has been crowned the September 2011 winner: “CEC Brighton provides a superb location, with very close proximity to Brighton Train station. The team is always accommodating and able to provide a solution to any referrals that SOS send to Nerys, who also offers fantastic feedback to the SOS team, and is always cheerful, helpful, and a pleasure to do business with”.
City Executive Centres (CEC) are the UK’s leading provider of flexible serviced offices, with over 10 years’ experience within the property industry. Located in the heart of Brighton’s city centre, on North Road, this business centre provides panoramic views of Brighton and the seafront, along with varied office space packages to suit any type of company. The occupancy is currently at over 80% which is highly impressive due to the set back that the CEC faced in March this year, when two of the floors flooded. SOS caught up with Nerys to talk about winning the award, and of the setbacks that she and her dedicated team have had to overcome during the last few months.

Nerys began working at the CEC Brighton in July 2010 as Business Development Manager, but over the last 10 months, has also taken on the role of Acting Operations Manager. When asked how she felt about winning the Business Centre Excellence Award, Nerys replied that she was “very excited, as this is the first award that the CEC has won since I have been working here… It’s also a huge achievement, not only because this is the first SOS Business Centre Excellence Award, but for a Brighton based centre to win over a London based centre is great news. The whole team are over the moon, and we can’t wait to tell the tenants, as it will be a big surprise!”

The award certainly was a welcome surprise, as the CEC had some big obstacles to negotiate recently. During the March flood, which rendered two floors uninhabitable, Nerys and her team had to relocate a large number of clients. What should have been a huge task was dealt with in a matter of hours which minimised disruption, and proved to clients that the centre was more than capable of dealing with what some would describe as a disaster. Nerys called the flood her “baptism of fire”, and stated that it was a “testament to the team at the CEC”, as they overcame the problems, and still had clients renewing their contracts during and afterwards - thus proving that the CEC provide essential maintenance and upkeep, meaning that clients need not worry about these aspects, and can focus on their jobs.
The dedicated team are just one of the reason’s that make the CEC Brighton a stand out business centre. With 43 offices ranging from 100 square foot, to 2,200 square foot, and a hugely diverse range of business and companies under one roof, tenants can benefit from networking and interaction, thanks to the break out areas and communal kitchens. Diversity is one of the factors cited by Nerys as to why she enjoys working at the CEC Brighton. “We have a professional, yet laid back atmosphere, with a large cross section of businesses; from architects and solicitors, to charities, fair trade companies, and renewable energy organisations.”
Breakout Areas
The CEC Brighton also strives to help nurture companies, and encourage growth. One of the existing tenants began with a workforce of 2 employees, which has now grown to 17, meaning that additional office space was provided by the CEC Brighton to help allow for this development. This is just one of the factors that the CEC hope to see develop in the future, along with encouraging longer rental contracts, and redevelopment of the business centre’s interior. For example, splitting up large offices into smaller units, and generating more interest through concentrated sales tactics, in November, December, and January next year.
Nerys wanted to individually thank SOS’s Romain Lenne for his nomination, and her team at CEC Brighton, for their hard work over the past year: Kelly Faires, the Service Coordinator, Receptionists Becci Murphy and Hayley Kember, and Anna Orme, who will take over as Operations Manager in November 2011.
Once again, SOS would like to congratulate the CEC Brighton for their excellent customer service, hard work and dedication. They are deserved winners of the Business Centre Excellence Award for September 2011.
