Going the extra mile

Come rain or shine, and there was a lot of rain, nothing deterred the SOS team when it came to competing in the 2012 British 10k run in London on Sunday 8 July.

Sales Consultant Troy Haynes, Key Account Director, Daniel Howard and Business Centre Administrator Daniel Howard ran in the pouring showers to raise much-needed funds for key charity Cancer Research.

In spite of a certain other sporting event taking place in Wimbledon, plenty of spectators turned out to cheer the runners on.

At the finish line Daniel recorded a commendable time of 1 hour 38 minutes while Troy managed to run the 10k in only 47.58.

Both Daniel Howard and Troy thought the rain helped their performance. According to Troy, “The rain helped, as it kept the temperature cooler “, while Daniel commented, “I had thought the rain was going to hinder, but actually made the experience easier. I think it would have been a lot harder to reach the end had it been a hot day.”

For those who don’t know, the British 10K is the UK's leading 10K road race and is staged on the world's greatest route. Runners pass some of the country's greatest landmarks including Big Ben, The EDF London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey.
