SOS> Search Office Space Run 10k British Marathon for Cancer Research UK
On 10th July 2011, the SOS> Search Office Space team will take part in the British 10K Marathon to raise £5, 000 for SOS’s charity of choice, Cancer Research.
The race this year starts at Piccadilly, Hyde Park Corner and finishes at the junction of Royal Horseguards Arch and Banqueting House on Whitehall after passing through many famous and historic London landmarks.
It is estimated that there will be over 25, 000 runners, 40, 000 spectators and hundreds of charities who will benefit from the support and millions of pounds that will be raised.
It has been estimated that every 2 minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer and more than 1 in 3 of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. The work Cancer Research does is therefore vital.
Over the last 40 years, people’s chances of surviving the disease have doubled as a result of the charity’s work. Below are just some of the drugs developed by Cancer Research which have helped to save thousands of lives.
- Tamoxifen and Herceptin – used to treat women with breast cancer.
- Temozolomide – used worldwide to treat people with the most common type of brain tumour
- Carboplatin – one of the most successful cancer chemotherapy drugs ever developed.
By running the British 10k run, SOS> Search Office Space aims to support and raise funds for Cancer Research. They receive no government funding, so the life saving work of the charity’s researchers, doctors and nurses depends solely on public generosity and support.
Whether you’re paying in a few pounds or a few hundred pounds, it all goes towards finding new ways to prevent, diagnose, treat cancer and save lives.
