Hasselt is a Belgian city and municipality, and capital of the Flemish province of Limburg. The Hasselt municipality includes the original city of Hasselt, and the old communes of Sint-Lambrechts-Herk, Wimmertingen, Kermt, Spalbeek, Kuringen, Stokrooie, Stevoort, and Runkst, as well as the hamlets and parishes of Kiewit, Godsheide and Rapertingen. The town centre of Hasselt is small and very sociable. This predominantly car-free zone has a number of celebrated buildings and it is pleasant to spend the day walking around, having something to eat or drink, and enjoying the historical atmosphere. Among the oldest buildings in the town centre are the St. Quentin’s Cathedral and Herkenrode Abbey refuge house. The Grote Markt, which is the large central market square, and the nearby streets are lined with pubs, restaurants and taverns. Demerstraat and Koning Albertstraat are the most important shopping streets in the town. On Kapelstraat and Hoogstraat you will find expensive shops offering several famous brands. Transport Information

Hasselt is within an hour’s drive from the airports of Brussels, Liège, Maastricht-Aachen, Antwerp, Cologne-Bonn, Düsseldorf, and Charleroi. It has an IC train station offering regular service to points within and beyond Belgium. Hasselt is easily accessible by car on motorways E313 (exits 27 - 28 - 29) and E314 (exit 29). Public transport by bus is free in Hasselt.
