A Coruña, La Coruña, or sometimes Corunna—is a city and municipality in Galicia, Spain. This is the second-largest city and the provincial capital of La Coruna province. La Coruna is a port city, situated at the entrance of an estuary on the Atlantic Ocean.

Business Information

The economy of La Coruna is focused on the port, as a distribution point for regional agricultural products. The areas industry is centred on shipyards and metal works of the neighbouring city of Ferrol. There is also an oil refinery right in the centre of La Coruna. There are also finance and communications companies, as well as technical services within the metropolitan area. The clothing company Zara, is based in the city. Inditex is headquartered in the nearby town of Arteixo. This is the world’s largest textile manufacturer.

One of the most incredible gardens in the area, the Jardín de San Carlos, is the perfect place to stop for a minute and have a picnic. With Paseo del Parrote, this area dates back to 1843. The garden covers the site of an old fortress that once guarded the harbour. The views are incredible, the historical significance worth a exploring. Near the gardens you will find Iglesia de Santa María del Campo, Calle de Santa María. This is a 13th century Romanesque-Gothic style church. It has an elaborately carved west door and a Gothic portal from the same time period. The Roman Tower of Hercules is a lighthouse in La Coruna that has been in continuous operation since the 2nd century AD. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Restaurants in the area include Muiño de Trigo – situated in an old watermill, this is rustic dining at its finest. There is also a great outdoor terrace. The menu is traditional and there is a wine list to match. Adega Bebedeiró is another choice offering Galician cuisine with old stone walls and hardwood floors. It serves regional dishes with fresh fish, shellfish, and locally grown mushrooms.

Transport Information

A Coruña Airport, formerly Alvedro Airport, is located in the municipality of Culleredo 7 kilometres (4 miles) from the city centre. This airport primarily serves Spanish destinations, with regularly scheduled flights to London and Lisbon. In the summer months flights to Amsterdam and Paris are added. You can get to La Coruna via roadways, and there is bus service available as well.
