Tenerife is an island that is part of the group of Canary Islands owned by Spain. It is the most densely populated and largest of all of the seven Canary Islands. A major tourist site, the island draws more than five million visitors to its shores annually. Attractions such as the volcano El Teide - the world’s third largest volcano, and one of the biggest carnivals in the world - the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, keeps visitors coming back. The largest draw to the island remains its resorts and beautiful sandy beaches.

From water sports to archaeological finds, Tenerife offers it all to its visitors. There are cave paintings all over the island for those with an interest in early archaeological sites. For individuals who come to Tenerife to enjoy the water, there are beautiful beaches, and opportunities to enjoy sailing, power boating, and other water sports. The lush Botanical Gardens in Tenerife is also a must see. These gardens are located in the Paz area of Puerto de la Cruz and feature special gardens that were designed back in 1788 so that plants that came from the New World could be acclimatized for their eventual delivery in Spain. Dining options in Tenerife abound, including restaurants with international cuisine such as Coeur de Filet which serves both French and Spanish fare. The restaurant is known for its fine wines and entrees such as their Coeur de Filet steaks. If you are searching for a restaurant with a view, check out Los Roques restaurant where you can sit and watch the sunset while you dine. The food is fresh and inventive.

Transport Information

To get to Tenerife visitors can choose two different airports. The Tenerife South Airport (Reina Sofia Airport) is the larger and busier of the two airports. This airport is where most of the regular and charter flights coming from Europe arrive. The smaller airport known as Los Rodeos Airport or Tenerife North Airport also receives flights from Europe and Venezuela. You can also get to Tenerife by ferry. The TF-1 and TF-5 are the island’s key highways that skirt around the coast with smaller capillary roads heading inland.
