The third largest of Liechtenstein’s city areas, Triesen offers several historic churches that date from the fifteenth century. The city also has a weaving mill dating from 1863, which is an interesting monument to the Industrial Revolution. Liechtenstein is a very small, landlocked country in Western Europe that is bordered by Austria and Switzerland. Triesen is located within 6 km (less than 4 miles) from Vaduz — the capital city of Liechtenstein and the seat of government. The country and city are mountainous, alpine areas that are popular with winter sport enthusiasts.

Liechtenstein has a prosperous, highly industrialised economy. There are a large number of small businesses in the country and a vital financial service sector. The industries in Triesen include electronics, metal manufacturing, dental products, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, food products, precision instruments, tourism, and optical instruments. The Prince of Liechtenstein Foundation is a portfolio of private companies, museums, and art collections owned by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein. They include the LGT Group, the Hofkellerei Wineries, Wilfersdorf Agricultural and Forest Company, RiceTec, Liechtenstein Royal Museum, and the Liechtenstein Museum. There are still buildings in Triesen with available office space.

Entertainment And Dining Out

One of the most incredible sights in the area is the Schloss Vaduz. This is the home of the royal family, an imposing and historic castle that overlooks the city of Vaduz. It isn’t open to the public, but you can get very close. There is skiing and snowboarding at Malbun, and the entire country offers great hiking, road biking, and mountain biking terrain. There are a several restaurants in the larger cities, and many small bakeries offering fresh rolls or pastries. In smaller towns you will find traditional local cuisine. The Old Castle Inn in Vaduz offers authentic cuisine and a unique atmosphere. Alternatively the McDonald’s in Liechtenstein is well advertised, and serves wine.

Transport Information

Liechtenstein doesn’t have an airport. The nearest major airport is Zürich Airport, which is 130 km (80 miles) away by road. St. Gallen is a smaller airport that is located closer, just 50 km (30 miles) away. The country has 250 km (155 miles) of paved roadway and 90 km (56 miles) of marked bicycle paths. Railway lines connect to Austria and Switzerland from Liechtenstein. There are four main stations in Liechtenstein, Schaan-Vaduz, Forst Hilti, Nendeln, and Schaanwald, and several bus service options.
