A city in southwest Germany and the capital of the federal state of Hesse, Wiesbaden is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe. It is also home to a US Army base and a large population of Americans. Wiesbaden translates to ‘meadow baths,’ referring to the fourteen local hot springs. The Romans were the first to document use of these thermal springs.

Make sure to ride the Nerobergbahn or Neroberg Mountain Train. This is the last water ballast funicular railways in Germany. It is a wellness and leisure spa with a pretty garden and plenty of space to relax or walk around the gardens. Kurhaus spa boasts historic Roman frescoes, four saunas, a swimming pool, and whirlpools. Dining options in Wiesbaden are plentiful and varied. Vapiano is an Italian restaurant specializing in freshly made pizza and pasta. The Felseneck Restaurant offers in Greek, Italian, and German cuisine made with the freshest ingredients - one of their popular specialities is schnitzel.

The nearest major airport to Wiesbaden is Frankfurt am Main Airport. This airport operates international and domestic flights from Frankfurt, which is 37 km (23 miles) from the city centre. Another major airport in this area is the Frankfurt-Hahn Airport providing additional options for air travel. Wiesbaden is well connected by highways from Frankfurt, Cologne or Mainz. Travel times by car are approximately 15 minutes (from Mainz), 30 minutes (from Frankfurt), or 2 hours (from Cologne / Köln). Trains travel frequently to Wiesbaden. There are S-Bahn trains and regional offerings, as well as ICE trains.
