One of the largest cities in Italy and the capital of the region of Liguria, Genoa boasts a number of historical landmarks that have led to it being nicknamed “La Superba” or The Superb One. Known as one of the most culturally rich cities in the world, Genoa has been home to famous personalities including Christopher Columbus, Michele Novaro, Riccardo Giacconi and Eugenio Montale. Walls from Genoa’s distant past still stand in some parts of the city while places like Porto Antico, Piazza De Ferrari and Lanterna are major landmarks from the city’s more recent history.

Genoa is a significant commercial hub with numerous wine and olive oil production facilities in and around the city. There is a substantial flower growing industry in the region. Genoa has a wide variety of restaurants that take pride in using local produce to create traditional and contemporary delicacies. Le Mura di Malapaga is a barbeque establishment for meat-lovers while J’aime les Crepes is a great place to sample some simple French cooking. For a taste of local Genovesi food, Trattoria Rosmarino and Retro are great places to go.

Genoa is a major port town with a variety of modes of transport for commuters. The Port of Genoa has numerous passenger and cargo liners coming in while Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport connects the city to major parts of Europe. Genoa Brignole and Genoa Principe are the two main links to the railway network and Genoa Sampierdarena is also high on the list of important railway stations, out of a total of 23 that serve this massive city. The city also has an extensive bus network while trolleys also serve some areas.
