The capital city of Spain and also its largest, Madrid is located on the Manzanares River in the centre of both the country and the Community of Madrid. This city is the political centre of Spain, housing both the government, and the Spanish monarch. Madrid has many architecturally distinctive neighbourhoods, from medieval to modern. The oldest of the preserved districts are Lavapiés, Malasaña, and Chueca.

Another choice, Casa Mingo, focuses on simple dishes such as roast chicken and chorizo in cider. This cider house restaurant has a history that dates to 1916. Sula is another great option, featuring a tapas bar, restaurant, and gourmet food store.

The nearest major airport is Madrid-Cuatro Vientos Airport. This airport operates international flights and is just 18 km (11 miles) from the city centre. Another major airport is Madrid-Barajas Airport, which provides further international and domestic flights and is 21 km (13 miles) from central Madrid. There is a very well developed network of public transport within the city and Madrid is one of the world’s largest high-speed railway hubs with connections to the rest of Europe.
