Geneva is a city of important stature both nationally in Switzerland and internationally. It is the second largest city in terms of population in Switzerland and it is the capital of the canton of Geneva. The Geneva Cointrin International Airport provides visitors with easy access to the city. The airport is served by the Geneva Airport railway providing service to and from Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Montpelier in France. The city is easily accessible by car on the A1 motorway in France and Switzerland. There is an extensive public transportation system in Geneva including bus service, trolleybus, and tram. There is also public boat service linking both sides of the lake.
