Nottingham is a major city in the East Midlands region of England and the primary urban centre in the county of Nottinghamshire. The city’s history dates back to at least 600 AD and is perhaps most famous for its association with the legendary outlaw Robin Hood. Nottingham today has a busy and thriving central business area, two very highly regarded universities and a great mix of old and new architectural landmarks. The city also has a number of high level sports teams representing it, not least former European champions Nottingham Forest Football Club and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. There are several live music venues in the city, most notably Nottingham Arena and Rock City, both of which host dozens of high profile live acts every year. The central business areas in Nottingham are around Old Market Square, which is also the cultural and commercial heart of the city. The Lace Market is a popular and historic quarter-mile area within the city centre, while nearby Hockley Village is fast earning a reputation as a cultural hub and great place to find vibrant Bohemian bars, shops and restaurants.

Setting up your business here

Nottingham has a strong reputation as business hub in the UK and across Europe. Its residents include a significant number of companies engaged in life sciences, digital media and financial services. Businesses with offices in the city include the credit reference agency Experian, the energy group E.On and the credit card business Capital One. Other significant local employers and office space occupiers include the Driving Standards Agency, BBC East Midlands and HM Revenue & Customs. There are also a number of successful software and computer game development businesses based in central Nottingham, including the likes of Crytex UK and Nexor.

Things to do in Nottingham

For anyone interested in medieval history, Nottingham Castle would be a wonderful visit and the city is dotted with monuments and curiosities relating to the legend of Robin Hood. Fully-fledged visitor attractions in the city include the Galleries of Justice and Wollaton Hall. For theatre lovers, the Nottingham Playhouse is a world-class contemporary venue not to be missed and the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall has a wide variety of acts performing throughout the year. Meanwhile, for anyone who isn’t claustrophobic, a trip underground and through the incredible City of Caves beneath central Nottingham is an experience you’re never likely to forget. Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to excellent places to eat out in Nottingham but a few of the best include Iberico World Tapas near the Lace Market and Chino Latino on Maid Marion Way. For classically British pubs you should seek out either the Ye Olde Salutation Inn or Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, the latter of which is officially England’s oldest inn.
