Bankside is one of the oldest settlements in Britain. When the Romans first settled Londinium over 6000 years ago, they built a bridge across the banks of the Thames, and Bankside forms this area around where that bridge was constructed. The area was primarily used for entertainment for many years, and was home the The Globe, The Rose, The Swan and The Hope theatres during the Tudor period. The area was redeveloped for industry during the 18th century, but has been reinvented as a cultural and entertainment location in modern times, pulling together various London attractions to create one tourist and business area. Recent developments include the Bankside 1/2/3 development, which is home to a couple of the City s major businesses and puts Bankside on the map for industry. Bankside is also a dedicated business improvement district.

Setting up your business here

With plenty of new developments, and redevelopment continuing, Bankside is a City location on the rise in the business world. It is home to a wide range of businesses across a range of industries, with companies such as IPC Media and The Royal Bank of Scotland based here. Bankside is also an important cultural and tourist location, providing a permanent passing trade all year round, and a great range of both transport links and amenities.

Culture and Entertainment

Bankside has attractions and entertainment options for almost any interests and times. One of the more popular attractions with tourists and locals alike is the Tate Modern, which hosts international modern art and various exhibitions and new pieces throughout the year. For something a little more historical, Bankside is also home to the Shakespeare s Globe Theatre, which is a replica of the original Globe Theatre which stood just 200 yards away in the 16th century. The Globe hosts raucous performances in the original style and has regular performances and tickets at affordable prices.

Eating out

For a post-work bite to eat, nothing can be better than the Black and Blue Steakhouse, which serves delicious cuts of the freshest beef, and serves a famous range of sauces to accompany any meal. For a more cultural meal, El Vergel has a Latin American and Mediterranean menu which appeals to visitors particularly in the summer months. For a quick drink, Doggett s Coat and Badge is one of the most popular pubs in the area with the business crowd, and has a lively atmosphere and well-priced drinks.
