Billingsgate is situated on the north bank of the River Thames and is known for its famous inland fish market, which as the name suggests is a market dedicated purely to the sale of fish. The market once sold everything from pottery and iron to salt and wine. However, these days, the market manages to sell an average of 25,000 tonnes of fish a year.
