Notting Hill Gate is one of the main thoroughfares of the fashionable London borough of Notting Hill. Situated near the area of Kensington, Notting Hill gets its name from a manor in this neighbouring borough called Knotting-Barnes and was a rural area until the 19th century.

Extensive redevelopment throughout the 1800s turned this location into a popular middle-class suburb of London, an era which ended with the Blitz in the 1940s and turned Notting Hill into slums. These were cleared in the 60s and 70s and the area has started to regain its fashionable status as the years have gone by.

Home to the world-famous Portobello Market, there is a very high concentration of shops and restaurants in both Notting Hill and Notting Hill Gate, offering a vibrant and exciting atmosphere all year round.

Setting up your Business Here

The vast majority of firms in the area operate in the retail and food industries, with some of the most upmarket and prestigious restaurants in London being based here. Notting Hill Gate is home to a number of specialist shops bringing in visitors from miles around, with antiques and music stores being the most popular.

The area also enjoys plenty of passing trade, offering businesses based here a great way of promoting their brand. The area’s strong transport links and Central London location ultimately mean that office space in Notting Hill Gate is a great option for businesses looking to boost their capacity to network with other growing firms, as well as making it convenient to set up business meetings and attract talented inner city employees.

When it comes to theatre and cinema, Notting Hill Gate has quite a reputation for breaking the mould. The Electric Cinema is a truly original experience for any cinema-goer, with large leather sofas, small tables and drinks and snacks served. This area is also particularly well-known for Notting Hill Carnival, an annual event that has taken place since 1966, in which the city is ladened with sound systems and parade bands over the course of two days in August.
