New Southgate is a residential suburb that lies at the point of conjunction of three north-London boroughs – Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. Originally part of a tiny hamlet called Betstyle, New Southgate was renamed after the railway station of the same name. The New Southgate Railway Station, built in1850, has become a major landmark for the area. New Southgate is also within easy reach of a range of attractions, including the historical Avenue House and the neo-classical Kenwood House.

The namesake railway station is also the main source of in-bound and out-bound traffic in New Southgate. Along with the Amos Grove Underground Station, trains are the primary mode of transport to and from this village. The area also offers regular and reliable bus and taxi services.
