About Cardiff

Cardiff is the capital and largest city in Wales, one of the four distinct countries that make up the United Kingdom. The city is the primary economic and political centre in Wales and one of the top ten largest cities in the UK. A popular tourist destination and a place with a huge number of sites of historic and cultural interest, Cardiff is very much a modern European city and a great place to do business. Several of the UK’s largest and best sporting arenas like the Millennium Stadium and the Cardiff City Stadium are found in the city. Geographically, Cardiff is bordered to the west by the Vale of Glamorgan, to the east by the city of Newport, and to the south by the Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel. Cardiff’s central business district is bound by the River Taff to the west, by two railway lines to the south and east, and by a number of civic buildings to the north. Other significant central areas of the city include Riverside and Cardiff Bay.

Setting up your business here

Cardiff has a strong and thriving SME sector and is the centre of the Welsh media, finance, insurance and engineering industries. Other businesses with a notable office space presence in the city include British Gas, ING Direct, BT and the Halifax Bank of Scotland. Being located in the far south of Wales means Cardiff is close to a number of commercially and economically significant English cities, not least London, Birmingham and Bristol.
