The town of Chessington is located in the Royal Borough of Kensington upon Thames, in Surrey, England. The name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words ‘Cissan Dun’, which literally mean a hill belonging to Cissa. The region has been home to many notable residents in the past, including Enid Blyton and Helen Chamberlain. A large number of tourists come into Chessington every year, mainly to visit its number one attraction – The Chessington World of Adventures. This is one of the leading resort theme parks in all of Europe, bringing in people from far and wide. Other local attractions include St Paul’s Church and Coppard Gardens.

Sega Amusements Europe, one of the largest video game developers in the world, has its head office in Chessington. Other notable businesses that occupy office space in the region include software designers, IT support companies, investment firms and real estate agencies. Retailers also have a major presence in the area. In addition to supermarket chain stores such as Tesco and Sainsbury, there are numerous boutiques, furniture stores, beauty salons and gift shops.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Chessington Equestrian Centre is a unique entertainment venue in the area. The riding sessions that are organised here can keep you busy all day long. If you’re looking for some night-time entertainment, The Bonesgate, The Cricketers and the Chessington Oak are great pubs to head to. You need to have more than one meal out to do justice to the eateries in the area. The Monkey Puzzle may have an odd name, but it serves the best steaks in town. Regent Restaurant is known for its tasty Chinese fare while Red Rose is the best place for spicy Indian curries.

Transport Information

Chessington North and Chessington South are the two active railway stations in the area. Regular trains depart to London Waterloo station from both these stations during the week. Services on the South West Line can also be accessed from here. Junction 9 of the M25 motorway serves the area, providing excellent road connectivity towards London and beyond. Local buses are also a great way to get around town. Heathrow and Gatwick Airports are about 20 miles from here, accessible by both road and rail.
