Colindale is a region of north-west London and the Borough of Barnet. The area lies south of Burnt Oak and Edgware, and north of West Hendon, the Brent Reservoir and Wembley. For most of its history, Colindale was almost entirely uninhabited, with the exception being a prominent local family who gave the area its name. During the medieval period, Colindale became part of a route in and out of central London, but it wasn’t until the early years of the 20th century that industrial or commercial activity really arrived in the area. The period after the First World War saw an increase in the number of manufacturing businesses operating from Colindale and by the time the Second World War began, the town was rapidly emerging as a popular and vibrant suburban London location.

Setting up your business here

As a business destination, Colindale benefits significantly from having its own London Underground Tube station, which joins the Northern Line as it heads directly to King’s Cross and towards the City of London. There are numerous small-to-medium sized businesses operating from office space in Colindale and the area is bisected by the Edgware Road, which runs right into the heart of west London towards Marble Arch and Hyde Park. Companies with operating bases in Colindale include H and C Accounting, the integrated communications provider Secureinet Comms UK and G1 Legals, a provider of independent legal claims services.

Things to do in Colindale

Perhaps the most outstanding attraction in Colindale is the Royal Air Force Museum, which is dedicated to showcasing collections relating to Britain’s airborne wartime exploits and equipment. Anyone with an interest in the history of war should pay the museum a visit and there are hundreds of aircraft and plenty of interactive exhibits on show. Another nearby site showing interesting artefacts is the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture, which specialises in the history of textiles and wallpaper designs. There are some very pleasant and appealing open spaces in and around Colindale, many of which lie alongside Silk Stream, which runs through the area and eventually into the Brent Reservoir, another much-loved local attraction. For good food and great places to eat out in Colindale, try the Marina Club or Lahore Spice on Kingsbury Road, or the Wonderful Patisserie. Most of the best pubs in Colindale are found along Edgware Road and they include the King’s Lounge, Ennis Hope and McGowan’s Irish Bar. Look out also for the Green Man and McDonagh’s Bar, which are close to Kingsbury Road and towards West Hendon.
