Dewsbury is a town in the county of Yorkshire that lies on the banks of the River Calder, south of Leeds. The town was a major industrial hub in the 19th century, but with the closure of the mills a stage of rapid decline swept through the area. Since the turn of the century, a large number of the old mills have been demolished or converted, enabling the creations of new residential housing. Development and modernisation continue to improve Dewsbury alongside reminders of its history and heritage. Dewsbury Minster and Dewsbury County Court are two major landmarks in the town.
