Honor Oak is a suburban London locality situated almost entirely in the borough of Lewisham. A small portion of the area falls under the local authority of the borough of Southwark. Legend has it that the area gets its name from a magnificent oak tree standing tall atop a hill in the vicinity. It is believed that Elizabeth the First and Sir Richard Bulkeley enjoyed a picnic under the tree in the 17th century, making it a famous landmark in the area that eventually came to be known by its name. Today, although the original tree does not exist, you can see a replica of the tree on the hill which was planted in the early 20th century. The area also has popular attractions such as the Horniman Museum and Aquarium.
