Until the mid-19th century, the area was largely rural and of little importance. At that time, James Weller Ladbroke initiated the development of the vicinity, starting with Ladbroke Estates and going on to develop other areas. Since then, the entire locality came to be known as Ladbroke Grove. Today it is the chief road through which the annual Notting Hill Carnival passes, attracting thousands of visitors and tourists every August. Other famous attractions in the locality include the Trellick Tower and Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising.
