A ceremonial county in the Midlands region, Leicestershire gets its name from its main city and administrative capital, Leicester. Although Leicester is the administrative capital of the area, Glenfield is where the county council sits. The county is full of popular areas of historical and cultural interest such as Ab Kettleby, Ashby Castle, Belvoir Castle, Beacon Hill, Mallory Park, the National Space Centre and Foxton Locks. Places like Melton Carnegie Museum are significant landmarks in the area as are Harborough Museum and the heritage trains at Great Central Railway.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Leicestershire has a number of entertainment venues including Phoenix Square cinema for movie fans and Curve for lovers of live-performances and musical shows. The Y Theatre and Concordia Theatre are part of a long list of venues that host great stage-productions. Dining out in Leicestershire also has its perks with a variety of food, ranging from Italian to South American, available in its restaurants. There is Mediterranean food on the menu at La Vida while the Queen’s Head serves up a variety of traditional British cuisine. Mount Gurkha is the place to go to for Himalayan cooking.

Transport Information

Leicestershire has convenient air-transport links with East Midlands Airport situated within easy reach. The M1, along with a number of other major roadways, pass through the county providing connectivity in and around the area. Coach and bus services run with regularity while taxis are also a popular means of getting around. There are many train stations in the county including Leicester, Loughborough, Hinckley and South Wigston railway stations, amongst others. These offer connectivity to London St. Pancras, the CrossCountry Birmingham-Peterborough line and many other routes. East midlands airport provides options for international travel in the area and can be found in the north west of the county between the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.
