Northumberland is a county in the north east of England and shares its borders with Scotland. The area has a rich and fascinating history and has been the site of a number of battles. The county also has numerous fortifications and ruins that serve as reminders of that era. Today, Northumberland has many natural reserves along the North Sea coastline and in its moorlands. Newcastle Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport are the biggest airports in and around the county while a number of ports at North Sunderland, Berwick upon Tweed and Port of Blyth also serve commuters and freight in the region. The county receives its rail links via the East Coast Main Line and Tyne Valley Line with major stops at MetroCentre Railway Station, Prudhoe Railway Station and Bardon Mill Railway Station.
