The registration county of Ayrshire is situated in south west Scotland and is positioned next to the Firth of Clyde. Amongst the principle towns in the county are Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock, all of which boast a rich, long, and varied history as well as diverse culture. In the last seven years, the county has hosted the British Open Golf Championships twice – the event was held in the coastal town of Troon, which saw a massive influx of visitors.
