Kingston upon Thames is located in the Royal Borough of the same name. Although the town is now included in the Greater London area, it continues to be the administrative headquarters of the County of Surrey, which it was once a part of. All through the 20th century, the region was extremely famous for housing numerous aircraft manufacturing companies such as Sopwith Aviation and Hawker Aircrafts. British Aerospace also had a significant presence in the area. Today, even though most of these manufacturing units have been transformed into commercial space, fine examples of Britain’s aviation history can be seen at the famous local landmark – Brooklands Museum.
