Newhaven is a town that sits at the mouth of River Ouse and is part of the county of East Sussex. A major port-town, Newhaven has made a major contribution to British maritime history and the harbour is one of the main landmarks in the area. The RNLI Newhaven Lifeboat Station and Newhaven Fort are popular attractions, while Newhaven cliffs are known as a “Site of Special Scientific Interest”, mainly due to the many fossils unearthed along this stretch of coastline. There are a lot of natural open spaces in and around Newhaven including the South Downs National Park.

Business Information

Newhaven’s main industry is the tourism derived from its ferry port; there are also a number of businesses that work in other sectors occupying office space in the town. These include healthcare specialists, computer repair services, furniture manufacturers, landscape architects, and graphic design companies. Caltec Control Specialists, Haven Trading and David Foster Associates Limited are some of the noteworthy companies operating from Newhaven.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Newhaven is a relatively quiet town with a select number of entertainment opportunities. Cineworld and Odeon Cinema screen the latest movies while The Nightingale Theatre in Brighton is the nearest option for stage-productions. The Marlborough Bar, Theatre & Café is a prominent live-music venue near Newhaven. Newhaven has a host of restaurants serving a variety of European cuisine. There is Harbourside, which serves a wide array of authentic English dishes while Woodies is all about contemporary British cooking. Luna Rossa is an Italian eatery with some tasty options to sample.

Transport Information

Newhaven ferry port is one of the UK’s most convenient links to France, providing regular journeys to the northern French town of Dieppe. The journey takes five hours on ferry services run by two operators: LD lines and Transmanche Ferries. Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour are the two railway stations in the area that provide connections to National Rail services while reliable local buses and taxis are convenient methods of getting around town.
