Barnsley is a town in the county of Yorkshire, located on the banks of the River Dearne, south of Leeds. Once a major industrial town that excelled at coal mining and glass working, new industries have now taken their place as Barnsley moves into the modern era of commerce. The industrial heritage can still be seen in the area although development has brought in new buildings and structures. Places like the Cooper Gallery and Locke Park are always popular with the locals while Oakwell Stadium is the home of local football team, Barnsley FC.

Transport Information

The M1 motorway passes right next to the town with junctions 36 and 38 providing access. Barnsley Interchange is the local bus depot and railhead where the Penistone Line takes commuters to Huddersfield. Robin Hood Airport provides the town’s nearest links to air travel, while Leeds Bradford Airport is also close by. A number of taxi, bus and coach services offer connectivity to the airport, around the town, and further afield.
