Kew is a suburb of the city of Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria. It is situated 6 km (4 miles) east of Melbourne’s city centre. The suburb of Kew borders the Yarra River, as well as the suburbs of Hawthorn, and Balwyn. As one of the city’s most affluent suburbs, Kew has many Victorian and Art Deco mansions. These large homes are set back from the street with manicured gardens and trees surrounding them. Kew offers several large parks in and around the suburb, including Yarra Bend and the Studley Parks.

Kew is mostly a residential neighbourhood with some commercial activity, restaurants and shopping. The Yarra River Precinct is Melbourne’s entertainment and leisure centre offering fashion and nightclubs, art galleries and theatre, as well as sporting activities. One of the greatest things to do in Kew is visit Yarra Bend Park. This 260 hectare (642 acre) park offers the largest area of natural bush land in inner Melbourne. The Yarra River flows through the park, which offers two golf courses, two historic boathouses, and a number of cycle and walking trails. You can also go boating on the river, choosing a scenic cruise to look at the St Kilda penguins, take a ferry to Williamstown, and more. The promenade in Southgate offers a great selection of dining choices. You will also find superb shopping, and the Crown Entertainment Complex. Here you will be spoiled for choice, from coffee and people watching to food served at one of the excellent cafés, the views are stunning especially at night when the city lights come on.

The nearest major airport to Kew is Melbourne Airport. This airport provides international and domestic flights and is situated 23 km (14 miles) from Melbourne city centre. Another major airport in the area is Avalon Airport, offering domestic flights 58 km (36 miles) from Melbourne. The city’s public transport system consists of trams, trains and buses making it simple to get to Melbourne’s city centre. Kew offers convenient access to tram routes, and the train line can be accessed at Hawthorn and Glenferrie Stations.
