Shipping Container Architecture is increasing in popularity, with many companies converting the containers into office space, emergency housing, movie theatres and many other creative spaces. The containers have also been used as locations for market stalls as well as warehouses. Incidentally, the largest shopping centre in Europe is comprised of aisles of stacked shipping containers.
Movie Theatre
Wired.com, which publishes up-to-date information on the latest technology trends, wrote a recent article which highlights shipping containers which have been magically transformed into brightly coloured theatres or 'screening pods'
Art Center
Artists Jonathan Sears and Chris Hoeting (ParProjects) have been closely involved with Northside Community in the US to establish an art and education centre from shipping containers.
The Box Office
This is an eco-friendly, 12 unit office and studio space which has been transformed from 32 recycled shipping containers and has been designed by Distill Studio, later developed by Truth Box Inc.
Container Bar
This innovative bar is located in Austin, Texas, and is created completely out of shipping containers. It was designed by Big Red Dog.
