Renovation Plans for Guy's Hospital Tower in London Bridge
Guy’s Hospital Tower stands 34-storeys high and is said to be the tallest in the world. Unfortunately, many regard the tower as somewhat of an eyesore, even more so today, as it’s new neighbour happens to be The Shard – one of London’s most talked about Skyscraper developments.
However, Balfour Beatty have clinched a deal to renovate Guy’s Hospital tower with the help of architects, Penoyre & Prasad. Their aim is to repair the concrete deterioration and failing windows which will reduce the building’s overall carbon footprint. The design and revamp aims to remain respectful to the original, 1970’s architecture, whilst adding some shiny aluminium cladding to brighten the tower up.
Steve McGuire, director of Guy’s Hospital trust’s facilities and estates department told press, “We aim to transform the tower’s external appearance, to deliver a sustainable landmark design that benefits the trust as a whole, and with an impact reaching beyond the hospital site into the London Bridge Quarter and beyond”.
