Search Office Space employees to take part in the British 10K run
On the 8th of July 2012, a momentous event will occur: several employees of Search Office Space will be seen panting, red-faced and out of breath whilst taking part in the British 10K run.
The run takes place in Central London every year and will really put our fitness to the test as we pant past iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, The London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Nelson Hernandez’s Column and Westminster Abbey.
This is a fantastic effort to raise a substantial amount of money for charity, and Search Office Space’s charity of choice is Cancer Research UK, the UK’s leading cancer charity which aims to save lives by funding medical research and providing support for patients.
Interested in finding out how preparation is coming along for this event, I caught up with Tammy Newell, Search Office Space’s Copywriter, to see how she’s getting on with her training.
Tammy, what were your reasons for taking part in this fantastic event?
Cancer Research is a great charity so for that reason alone I wanted to get involved. I’ve also recently joined a gym so it gives me something to work towards in terms of improving my fitness.
How often do you find the time to train, and what sort of training are you doing?
I try to go to the gym at least twice a week for around an hour each time. My favourite form of exercise at the gym is the cross trainer as it’s great for cardio fitness which will help build up my stamina for the 10K run!
Have you made any special changes to your diet in order to prepare for the run?
Errrm, no. I’m not really one for dieting. I prefer to try and exercise more as I love food too much to cut anything out!
How are you planning on raising your sponsorship?
Through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, blog articles and talking to friends and family. Most of my friends are surprised that I’m taking part as I’m not a fan of running, and am pretty unfit, so hopefully I will get them to sponsor me – just so I can prove them wrong!
What would be your words of encouragement for anyone struggling with their training?
No pain, no gain! Although make sure you know how to use gym equipment properly. I’ve managed to pull a muscle in my back, but its nothing a nice massage wont sort out!
And finally, many people like to don funny outfits and costumes for their run in order to get into the Guinness Book of Records. What would be your outfit of choice if you were to attempt a World Record?
It’s an oldie but a goodie – the two person pantomime horse – but I would want to be the front end, not the back end!
We urge you to consider this fantastic cause and dig deep in your pockets to sponsor us unfit office workers here: https://www.justgiving.com/sosworldwideltd
Keep up to date with the Search Office Space blog for more training updates before the run. If you are there on the day and happen to spot any of us as we pass, please feel free to chuck us some water and the odd energy sweet!
