For the seventh in the series, I spent the day grafting away in TBWC’s Tagwright House location. I’ve got a confession to make – I didn’t leave the building once all day!
Having been to a couple of TBWC’s openings (the most memorable being The Desk in Shoreditch), I was really excited about this one. Known for their on-trend boutique aesthetic and focus on community and events, their locations prove popular with ambitious tech startups and creatives looking to get their brand out there.
On arrival I was greeted by friendly Front of House Bella, who gave me the lowdown on the space – the ground floor is dedicated to coworking, with others being private occupancy – and most importantly, set me up at my desk for the day. The nice thing about the coworking space here is that it’s not too big, not too small. Around the back of the space you’ll find large desks suitable for teams and towards the front desk there are private booths and taller desks, perfect for lone workers like me.
The coolest thing has to be the phone booths designed for, yes you guessed it, making private calls. Other quirky features include a zebra galloping out of the wall, lights in the style of God’s Own Junkyard and a football table. It’s easy to see why startups love these spaces so much – not only do they look great, they’re also very well located. Most of the company’s properties are positioned in the West End or City; this one has an N1 postcode and is just around the corner from Old Street Roundabout.
For lunch, I was recommended Abokado on City Road, offering healthy options including sushi and soups, as well as Last Days of Shoreditch, a little further afield but worth it for its choice. I experienced neither however and ended up staying put as a local food startup came in to share their sandwiches and lunchtime treats for free!
Found my perfect spot for the day – kitchen in sight for easy access to free tea!
Help yourself to a variety of teas and coffees in the fully fitted (and stocked) kitchen.
Surrealism & games add sprinkles of personality…
…this is definitely not a boring, corporate space.
Comfortable breakout spaces.
The tartan armchairs don’t just look great – they’re incredibly comfy (trust me, I tried and tested them thoroughly).
Old school telephone booths offer privacy when making calls.
Repurposing the London classic.
