Tremough Innovation Centre welcomes its first occupants
Tremough Innovation Centre is now the second of its kind in Cornwall and is run by Plymouth University, with involvement from the Combines Universities in Cornwall as well as the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth.
The first three businesses are due to move into the centre imminently, followed by other companies in February who wish to rent office space in Cornwall.
The centre cost £12 million and is due to create approximately 140 jobs and will provide many new facilities for an array of companies. A third one is also currently under construction in Truro.
Manager of the centre, Richard Snell, says, “Predominantly I'm looking for businesses which come from the eco, enviro, creative and media sectors and that's because on the campus those are the pockets of specialisms we hold. We're putting in frameworks and giving support and mentoring, there's so many advantages that we consider above office space.”
Film production company manager, Martin Wren-Hilton, is of the opinion that “you need to have an environment which enables businesses to grow and has a long-term plan. Because they've got this wonderful infrastructure here and because there's other people we can mix with it creates an environment which is conducive to innovation.”
The third innovation centre in Truro will be particularly attractive to companies specialising in health and is set to open in 2013.
