Barrie is a city located in the central part of Southern Ontario, Canada. It lies on the western shore of Lake Simcoe and is a part of Simcoe County. The area is situated within the Greater Golden Horseshoe - a region of Ontario, characterized with its dense population and industries. This city is 90 km (56 miles) north of Toronto.The terrain of the city changes from mainly flat in the center to rather steep, when moving north and south. The city has some creeks and streams in its boundaries, and a historic downtown area.

Barrie is definitely fun to visit during both summer and winter. There are also many seasonal festivals that take place in Barrie. In winter the city promotes activities. For instance, the there is a public skating rink and the Sunnidale Park has a toboggan hill. Attractions to visit include the Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, the MacLaren Art Centre, and the Ron Baird’s Spirit Catcher. The city has many restaurants, offering a vast array of different cuisines, such as: American, Asian, Indian, Middle-Eastern, and Italian. They include: Mango tree - offering Thai food, Casa Mia - Greek and Italian cuisine, and Oscar’s Seafood Kitchen & Oyster Bar – serving only sustainable fish and many locally grown ingredients. Most of Barrie’s nightlife, including lounges, pubs, bars and clubs, is centered between Dunlop and Bayfield streets.

Transport Information

Getting to Barrie is easy as the city is located about eighty-five kilometers (52 miles) from Toronto Pearson International Airport. Getting around the city can be done through buses and cabs, or via bicycle and walking trails. It takes around twenty minutes to travel from one side to the other in good weather conditions. Bus and train services also connect the city to the Greater Toronto Area.
