Halifax is a regional municipality of the province of Nova Scotia. It occupies about ten percent of the territory of the province. The area is an amalgamation of four municipal governments and includes over two hundred rural communities. Halifax is the largest municipality in Atlantic Canada. It was recently ranked as the fourth best place to live in the country and second among the large cities of the future.

Business Information

Halifax Regional Municipality is a financial, governmental, and cultural centre of Canada’s Maritime Region, thanks to its port, airport, rail connections, and highways. Major industries in the rural areas include agriculture, forestry, and extraction of natural gases, mining, and fishing. The biggest employers in the area include the Department of National Defence and Port of Halifax. There are many options for serviced offices in Halifax.

Entertainment And Dining Out

Halifax definitely has a lot to offer in terms of sights and things to do. Worth visiting is the Waterfront boardwalk or one of the great urban parks, as well as going on a Harbour Hopper guided tour, or on a boating tour. Fans of sports would probably prefer canoeing at Canoe the Northwest Arm, or watching the local hockey and basketball games. Other options include the Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour and the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library. Several big events take place in Halifax, such as the Busker Festival and the Nova Scotia International Air Show. While there is no special cuisine of the region, the seafood (especially the mussels, scallops, and ‘Sea Pie’) are local favourites. Restaurants in the area include: Shiraz – affordable Iranian cuisine and Doraku Sushi – one of the best sushi choices in the city, offering also other Japanese meals in mid-ranged prices.

Transport Information

Getting to Halifax by plane is convenient, as the city has its own airport – Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport. Canadian and international airlines, such as Air Canada, Thomas Cook Airlines, Condor, Canadian Affair, and Icelandair, offer flight connections to the USA and the rest of the world. Getting downtown from the airport is possible by express bus, shuttle, and taxi. Travelling to Halifax is also possible by train, as the VIA Rail train service connects the city with Montreal. By car, it is reachable through the provincial highways 101, 102, 103, and 104. Maritime Buses, ferry services between Halifax and Dartmouth, and Carnival Cruise lines provide other routes to approach the city.
