Umhlanga is a coastal town, located 10 miles north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Together with the greater Durban area, it is a part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. The town is a resort, commercial, and residential area. Umhlanga means ‘place of reeds.’
Umhlanga, specifically Umhlanga Ridge is the focus of development in the greater Durban area. Many businesses have relocated to the area from central Durban. The city is a tourist destination and is part of the Sugar Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It houses many luxurious hotels and apartments on the beach at Umhlanga Rocks, including Umhlanga Sands Hotel, Beverly Hills Hotel, and the Oyster Box Hotel.
