There are many great things to see and do in Kuwait. The country’s most recognizable landmark is Kuwait Towers, which are located on the Persian Gulf coastline, on the Bay of Kuwait. You can take the ferry to Failaka Island from Ras Al Salmiya (Ras al Ardh). Thi s is a port that offers the opportunity to view old dhows, Bronze Age and Greek archaeological sites, including the island’s Greek temple. Failaka Island was established as an outpost for Alexander the Great, under the name of Ikarus. Throughout Kuwait there is a large selection of restaurants serving both Arab and many options of International cuisine. Country specialities include Falafel, Hummus, a meat or fish marag – a dish with fried or boiled meat or fish that is combined with spices and other ingredients, and then steamed together in a large pot. Aish is an Arabic flat bread served with many meals.

Transport Information

Kuwait International Airport (IATA: KWI) is the country’s only airport. It is located in Farwaniyah, Kuwait, 15 km (9 miles) south of Kuwait City. This airport serves as the hub for Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways. Kuwait has a good road system with all signs in both English and Arabic. Public transport is largely provided by bus services, which operate between and within major cities and also provide international links. A major route runs from Kuwait to Cairo, Egypt via Aqaba, Jordan. The Kuwait Public Transport Company operates most of the country’s bus routes. The major bus routes run from Kuwait’s main city terminal. Route 101 runs to Al Ahmadi and Fahaheel and Route 103 goes to Al-Jahra. Taxis also operate in the major cities and provide reliable service.
