Officially the Republic of Poland, this country in Central Europe is bordered by Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave. Warsaw is the capital and largest city in Poland. Poland is a democracy, with a president as a head of state. There are 14 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Poland. While many of the urban centres are popular tourist destinations, Poland has a great deal of natural beauty with sights such as the Baltic Sea coast, Masurian Lake District, the Bia?owie?a Forest, Table Mountains, Tatra Mountains, and the Bieszczady Mountains.

The privatisation of small and medium state-owned companies and a liberal law on establishing new firms have allowed the emergence of an aggressive private sector. The major airports in Poland include Warsaw, Kraków, Katowice, Gda?sk, Pozna?, Wroc?aw, Szczecin, Rzeszów, Bydgoszcz, and ?ód?. There are many train connections with other countries and throughout the region. Poland is also served by a road network that links it with neighbouring countries so you can drive or take public transport. There are also options to get to areas of Poland by ferry or other boats. Public transportation is dependent on the area and city, but there are buses, trains, and high speed rail options including InterCity routes. Warsaw Central railway station is a major European transport hub and operates long-distance domestic and international services. The A2 motorway runs from the German border direct to Warsaw.
