Alicante is a city and the capital of the Alicante province, in Spain. This historic Mediterranean port is situated in the south Valencian Community, and is its second-largest city. Paved with 6.5 million marble floor tiles, the promenade Explanada de España is one of the loveliest promenades in Spain. This wavy walkway is lined by palm trees and is used for the traditional Spanish paseo or evening stroll. It runs along the waterfront and is a venue for outdoor musical concerts. There are many dining choices in Alicante, including the Albereda Restaurant which offers Catalan cuisine featuring options such as truffles, foie gras, and fresh fish.

The nearest major airport is Alicante Airport. This airport has international and domestic flights and is 16 km (10 miles) from the city centre. Another major airport in the area is Murcia-San Javier Airport, which offers international and domestic flights from Murcia, Spain. This airport is 101 km (63 miles) from Alicante. The Alicante Airport is among the busiest airports in Spain, following Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Málaga. The Alicante railway station links Alicante with suburbs and Murcia. There are RENFE trains which connect to Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia. The Alicante Tram connects the city with outlying settlements along Costa Blanca. There are also regular ferry services to the Balearic Islands and Algeria, and a local and long distance bus service. The small TRAM train goes from the city centre, down to the El Campello beach.
