The nearby monument Eleanor’s Cross has given its name to various London landmarks such as a junction, a famous hotel, a major rail terminus, as well as Charing Cross police station. However, Charing Cross Road is not to be confused with the junction by the same name. Rather than getting its name from Eleanor’s Cross, the road was so named as it is the main street serving Charing Cross railway station. The road is situated in the Covent Garden area of central London. Charing Cross Road was also immortalised in the Harry Potter novels, as the location of the infamous Leaky Cauldron.

Business Information

Charing Cross Road is famous for the sheer number of book stores that occupy retail space in the area. In addition to specialist bookshops where you can pick up books in every genre, there are quite a few second-hand book stores for the budget conscious shopper. Other businesses that have serviced offices in the area include dentists, estate agents, leather companies, and news agents.

Entertainment And Dining Out

The first floor of Foyle’s bookshop houses a famous coffee bar known as Ray’s Jazz, where you can get a great cup of coffee and a slice of cake. The soothing Jazz music is a major attraction for its loyal clientele, as are the lively Jazz bands that play there. There are several art galleries such as Isis and Lazarides that also make for some positive entertainment. Lovers of Korean food can head to Woo Jung, which offers delectable dishes without being too pricey. The various French and British restaurants in the locality also provide excellent options for dining out.

Transport Information

Tottenham Court Road is the closest station to the north end of the street, providing access to the Northern and Central lines. Leicester Square tube station sits at the mid-point of Charring Cross Road. Holborn tube station is nearby, providing onward access on the Victoria and Bakerloo lines. Charing Cross railway station can be found at the south end of the street, providing mainline connections. Additionally the famous, red London buses stop at many stops along Charing Cross Road, offering alternate over-ground links through the city.
