About Eltham

Eltham is a thriving suburb of south east London, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It was originally developed along the road running between London and Maidstone in Kent. Today Eltham is very well-connected with central London as well as the surrounding countryside. The area was greatly developed in the nineteenth century, and is a popular residential area to this day. In 2007 the Eltham Centre was opened, a modern building on the High Street which houses the council offices, a swimming pool and a library. Eltham is situated on a hill overlooking the city, and Shooter s Hill rises to the south – the highest natural point in London.

Eltham Palace and Gardens is a spectacular medieval palace and Art Deco mansion. It was built in the 1930s by the wealthy Courtauld family. The property is now managed by English Heritage and a popular visitor attraction. Eltham Park is a picturesque public space within which stands the Tudor Barn. This is a popular restaurant and conference venue which serves light lunches and delicious evening meals.
