Aberdeen, commonly known as The Silver City, is the third most populous city in Scotland. It is home to two prevalent universities - the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University, making it the educational hub of the north-east. In 2012 Mercer named Aberdeen as the fourth most liveable city in Britain and in the same year it was also named as a leading business hub and one of the UK’s ‘super cities’. As well as this vibrant city’s many claims to fame, it has a number of landmarks and places of interest that reflect the diversity of the area, including the Music Hall, the Robert Burns Monument and a wealth of high-end shopping establishments and eateries.

Setting up your business here

In recent times there has been a shift in the primary industries in Aberdeen, and today the economy relies heavily on agriculture, fishing, electronics and oil industries. Within the city itself there are many office spaces housing a diverse mixture of businesses from consulting companies, such as Risktec Solutions and Benchmark for Business to oil and gas companies such as Calash LTD. Networking opportunities are consistent and easy to find due to the large number of companies and workers in the area which is what makes it the ideal place to grow your business. Aberdeen is extremely convenient for both domestic and international travel as it is served by an airport and a train station as well as a number of bus routes to get you to and from anywhere in the city. You can also drive into the area or catch a taxi if you prefer an alternative means of transport.

Things to do in Aberdeen

As well as the excellent shopping, crafts and fitness centres that you will find in Union Square and close by, you will also be able to enjoy a wealth of evening entertainment on your doorstep in Aberdeen. Whether you are hoping to entertain a client after work or just have a relaxing drink or meal with friends, you will find it all. For a modern take on classic British dishes you can head down to The Albyn on Albyn Place or for something a bit more unique, try Oryza Hotpot, a Japanese Shabushabu dining experience; an excellent place to impress clients or share a meal with friends. When it comes to bars, you can immerse yourself in the contemporary social scene by heading to Amicus Apple or grab a beer and watch some fantastic sports coverage at Enigma. To top of your working week you can catch a show or enjoy some live music at The Music Hall or just take a walk around the city and sample its diverse and vibrant nightlife.
