Situated on the banks of the River Ray, Perth is a historic Scottish city and is the administrative centre of the Perth and Kinross area. In the 1820s, writer Sir Walter Scott, published a story called Fair Maid of Perth, and this led to the city developing the nickname, The Fair City. The town gained greater importance due to being the home of Scone Abbey.
