Yarralumla is a large inner suburb of Canberra, in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is located 7 km (4 miles) south-west of the centre of the capital city, along the bank of Lake Burley Griffin. It is bordered by major landmarks such as Commonwealth Avenue and Capital Hill, as well as by the Scrivener Dam and a part of the Molonglo River. Despite being one of Canberra’s largest suburbs, its population is comparatively small, due to its large open spaces, the Royal Canberra Golf Club, and the grounds of Government House and embassies, occupied for diplomatic purposes.
Yarralumla has a primary school and two pre-schools, a behavioural centre, and a day care facility, as well as a shopping centre and several restaurants. Nearby Canberra has an economy largely based on government administration and defence. The Australian Defence Force and HMAS Harman - a naval communications centre, are both headquartered in Canberra. There are also private companies that include independent software vendors, such as Tower Software and Rule Burst. There are many options for serviced offices in Yarralumla.
Yarralumla has a large number of landmarks and historical places such as the Governor-General’s residence - Government House, the National Zoo & Aquarium, the Yarralumla Woolshed and the a nearby equestrian park. Many of the diplomatic missions in Canberra are located in Yarralumla, including the embassies of Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and USA, as well as the High Commissions of India and Papua New Guinea. Many of these embassies offer unique architecture. Also located in the suburb are Weston Park, Lennox Gardens, Yarralumla Bay, the Yarralumla Yacht Club, and the Albert Hall. Yarralumla has a variety of restaurants offering diverse cuisine options. Examples include Sukothai Restaurant, Beess & Co Café, Emperor Court Chinese Restaurant, The Promenade Cafe, Yarralumla Gallery and The Oaks Brasserie.
Getting to Yarralumla by plane is quite easy, as Canberra International Airport is 10 km (6 miles) away. The suburb is serviced by an extensive network of ACTION buses, with the main stops located at Novar Street. For drivers there is a junction of the Adelaide Avenue situated in the south of the suburb. Adelaide Avenue runs along the southern periphery of the suburb and eventually joins the Tuggeranong Parkway, a Canberra ring road.
